Indications

Duspatal® is indicated for:

  • Symptomatic treatment of abdominal pain and cramps, bowel disturbances and intestinal discomfort related to IBS.
  • Treatment of gastrointestinal spasm secondary to organic disease.

Pharmacology

Duspatal® (mebeverine) is a musculotropic antispasmodic with a direct action on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, relieving spasm without affecting normal gut motility. Since this action is not mediated by the autonomic nervous system, the usual anticholinergic side effects are absent.

Side-effects

Duspatal® does not act via the autonomic nervous system, so there are none of the usual anticholinergic side effects such as a dry mouth, blurred vision, urine retention, constipation and drowsiness.

For this reason, Duspatal® can be used for patients with prostatic hypertrophy, urinary retention or glaucoma.

Safety profile

Safety and tolerance data have been collected from clinical trials in which more than 3500 patients received Duspatal® (mebeverine).

In all studies Duspatal® (mebeverine) was very well tolerated. In very rare cases allergic reactions have been reported. For more detail see your national product description.
